The Four Most Dangerous Types of Car Accidents
The Michigan State of Police has released their 2018 Year End Traffic Crash Statistics, an annual comprehensive report on traffic crashes that occurred here in Michigan. The report shows that there were a total of 312,798 crashes during that year, with 905 resulting in fatalities. Out of the 312,798 crashes, 55,340 ended with injuries sustained from the accident while 256,553 resulted in property damages. In terms of age, the majority of those involved in fatal crashes were between the ages of 25 to 34-year-olds.
When it comes to the reasons that lead to the accident, the same study identified the following:
- Unable to stop with 72,568 reports
- Failed to yield with 46, 846 reports
- Speed too fast with 31, 239 reports
- Improper Lane Use with 13, 594 reports
- Disregard traffic control with 10,395 reports
Accidents are no little thing to encounter, and these numbers just go to show how devastating they can be. When it comes to car accidents, people that are involved usually walk out with severe injuries, pain, and suffering to both the patient and his/her family, lost wages because of time spent in recovery and a massive amount of medical expenses.
The Most Dangerous Types of Car Accidents
According to a CBS article, Michigan ranked 9th as the state with the deadliest roads. Below are the four most dangerous types of car accidents:
Most commonly referred to as a pileup, this type of accident happens when there are many vehicles involved and usually of the rear-end accident variety. A pileup usually happens on high-capacity and high-speed routes like freeways. Accidents involving just two parties can be fatally dangerous already, so just imagine being involved in a car accident with multiple vehicles.
If there are more cars involved, then there is a higher chance of someone suffering from a grave injury. A pileup also leads to the possibility of more properties damaged and higher risks of fires and explosions.
An accident is considered a head-on collision when the front parts of two vehicles which are traveling in opposite directions hit each other. This type of accident usually happens when both cars are traveling along a road that has lanes moving in opposite directions, and then one vehicle accidentally changes direction and ends up in the other lane. A head-on collision, most of the time, results in a fatality because the driver is the recipient of the full force of the accident hitting the front part of the car.
A rollover accident occurs when a vehicle tips over onto its side or its roof. This type of accident is considered one of the most dangerous car accidents because it makes leaving the vehicle more difficult to do. The movement of a car rolling over can also have a devastating impact to the passengers and driver, especially if they are not buckled in.
More commonly referred to as a T-bone collision, this type of accident occurs when the side of one or more vehicles gets hit by another car. A side collision commonly occurs in intersections and parking lots. A side collision is considered as one of the most dangerous types of car accidents because the side parts of a vehicle are not as strong as the front and back parts. Often, in a side collision, the driver gets most of the damage and force from the accident.
Michigan’s No-Fault Insurance
The state of Michigan understands the physical and emotional suffering that comes with an accident, which is why no-fault insurance is required by law. This requires every car owner to own certain basic coverages; otherwise, they will not be able to get their license plates.
The no-fault policy intends to help anyone who gets involved in an accident pay for their medical bills. The policy also allows anyone who got involved in a car accident to pay for wage loss benefits, replacement services, and the damage done to other people’s property. From the name alone, it does not matter who caused the accident, they will still be able to experience the policy’s benefits.
